Feminine Rage

Narrative object exploring the performance of feminized anger.

The material and medium choices of leather boxing gloves, tattooing, and photography capture the characteristics of what feminine rage is permitted to exist as - as I created this object I focused on the softness of a leather glove intended for fighting and also protection, the pleasantness and purity of curly, cursive, white-inked lettering, and the permanence of what was left behind and changed after the gloves had been tattooed with the word "Rage" alone. Documenting them in photo they felt as delicate as fabric - not the winning gloves of a brutal fighter but unused and on display like a decorative hanging ornament. I wore a rage that was beautiful and it felt all too natural.
